Today at Disneyland: It's Summer!

Another week, another beautiful day at Disneyland USA, as we celebrated the start of summer vacation with friends.

The red, white and blue bunting is all along Main Street:

And what a gorgeous blue sky!

There are always beautiful flowers to enjoy, whether it's at the Hub...

...or close to the Matterhorn:

It was a real treat to finally meet longtime commenter Irene at the Golden Horseshoe! She was every bit as nice and friendly as I expected from her notes, and we certainly do have a lot in common. We even figured out a while back that we have mutual friends. Hopefully we'll have the opportunity in the future to enjoy Billy Hill and the Hillbillies together!

Then it was on to Big Thunder Mountain! Here's a view of one train taken as we rode the other:

A favorite view of Big Thunder:

It was a warm day, but there were plenty of cool spots and views, as the next two photos show:

And the Teacups had a nice mix of sun and shade. Here's a view looking towards Storybook Land Canal:

The elephants on the Jungle Cruise know how to stay cool too!

The train happened to pass behind Small World just as I was photographing the parade of dolls:

And here's a closeup of the parade:

We hope to return soon to see the new -- or newly refurbished -- Nightastic! entertainment, including the Electrical Parade, the Magical fireworks, the Pixie Hollow lights, and Fantasmic!

It's so weird to see Tea Cups just sitting out in the open! We keep a lid on ours out East!

They have a cover over them in Paris, too. :) (Hope to get up more Paris photos soon!) I think the hanging lanterns make the Teacups one of the prettiest areas at Disneyland.

Best wishes,
Laura

P.S. I was somewhat surprised to find the "exterior" of Small World inside on my first visit to Florida! In Paris you enter the ride "outside," but there is a cover over the line as well as over the path the boats take until they reach the "indoor" portion of the ride.

Fun to compare the differences park to park!

Best wishes,
Laura

It was so neat to finally meet you and your family :)

Last night Tinkerbelle and Dumbo did not fly in Magical and I heard today that during the first showing of Fantasmic the Mark Twain caught on fire at the back of the boat. Miscue on the fire on the water scene - it came on while the Mark Twain sailed through it! But it sailed just fine with no damage seen (by me anyway) for the second show. I also recorded the light show at Pixie Hallow which I hope to get on YouTube and then put on Facebook later today.

Here's to a future meet up with Billy :)

I just saw the story about the fire elsewhere, Irene! That's some miscue. I hope you were able to get back out there today (Friday). I read on MiceAge they expected it to be terribly crowded so I'll be interested in your report.

Best wishes,
Laura
