I Thought It Must Be a Joke...
...that long ago Mitt Romney strapped his dog in a car carrier to the roof of a car for a 12-hour drive.
This incident certainly doesn't say much for Romney's common sense.
It strikes me as more than strange that his family would willingly discuss this with the media.

It's a quirky, offbeat story; the Romney family wants to humanize their guy because he appears so thoroughly as the plastic man on top of the wedding cake. It's really not that outlandish, though. A dog would probably prefer being on top of a moving car where it can better sense where it's going. You remember those Charlie Dog cartoons: "Two go, but only one comes back." It shows that Romney thinks outside the box; that's why he's more successful than anyone you'll ever know in your life. Here's something for you Thompson fans: it's no inconceivable that Old Hickory Smoke will select good friend John McCain as his vice-president, with full approval from the Council on Foreign Relations. At that point you'll have two more phony Republicans in the White House again to carry on the Bush legacy. Meanwhile, can't some of you get over your anti-Mormon bigotry????

I'm unaware of anyone at this blog expressing bigotry so I'm not sure who that's directed at...
Re Mr. Thompson, I suspect he's smart enough to know if he chose his friend McCain as VP that would be the end of his candidacy. He knows McCain is poison to the GOP and tanking big time...which is one of the reasons Thompson feels comfortable entering the race.
As for the dog, well, that's thinking outside the box I could do without, myself. :)

I think there's a silent anti-Mormon bias among many mainstream Christians who are too polite to come out and say "Mormons are weird." This is the reason Romney is doing so poorly south of the Mason-Dixon where insiders say he's unelectable. I sense in Laura's mockery of Mitt Romney that his religion is at the root of things as well. After all, is there a more conservative, well-spoken, moral, and presentable candidate on our side?
So questioning his judgment about treatment of a family pet, and wondering why his family would want to share it with us, equates with anti-Mormon bigotry?
That's really outside the box thinking, I'll give you that! :)
As for conservatism, given how recently he was pro-abortion, etc., I seriously question his commitment to conservative principles. I'm concerned that while he's currently saying all the right things, it may be for political expediency rather than genuine "conversion." Who was the real Mitt and who would show up to govern as President -- the one who campaigned for governor in MA, or the one campaigning now?

Good to see ya' back "bag". I mean that. You add a little spice to the conversation with your alternative and often insightful comments. On Romney: I agree with Laura about his flip-flop situation. I can't seem to trust him to stand firm. Other than that, I agree that he is a fine candidate. On Thompson: I'm pretty sure McCain won't be his choice. He's smart enought to not tie tht dead weight to his campaign. Just this past Wednesday, Thompson was in SC and had a closed door meeting with his old freind from the legislature Mark Sanford. Reporters were not allowed in this meeting and it was described by both men as being just "catching up". I doubt that. They both supported McCain in the last election and worked together on that for a time. This go around, Sanford did not declare his support for McCain or anybody else. He's holding out for Fred. He even made a few positive statements about Thompson's candidacy. I think Thompson has Sanford on his mind. You ought to research him "bag". I think you'd like Sanford.
